The micro pub boom has well and truly come to Teesside, with 11 micro pubs and the number set to increase, the micro pub has become of the most popular locations to enjoy a pint or two of real ale on Teesside.
What is a micro pub? The micro pub association defines a micro pub as "a small freehouse which listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks."
The first micro pub to be opened on Teesside was the Rat Race Ale House which opened in a formed newsagents on the platform of Hartlepool Railway Station in 2010. Since the opening of the Rat Race we have seen a whole host of micro pubs opening throughout Teesside, appearing in converted takeaways, terraced houses, and amusement arcades!
